Headache & Migraine Acupuncture Treatment
Headaches can interrupt your day in an instant, making it difficult to think clearly, focus, or simply feel like yourself. For many people, they show up repeatedly—sometimes with predictable patterns, other times without warning. Whether your pain is sharp, dull, throbbing, or accompanied by nausea or sensitivity to light, headaches can take an enormous toll on your quality of life.
At New Dawn Acupuncture, we help patients understand the source of their headaches and reduce both their frequency and severity with targeted acupuncture treatments. If you’re ready for relief that goes beyond temporary fixes, call (202) 538-3995 to book today.
Types of Headaches
There are several distinct types of headaches, each with its own pattern:
Sinus headaches create pressure or pain in the face, especially above and below the eyes.
Tension headaches feel like a tight band across the forehead and may be worse on one side.
Headaches related to neck tension often affect the back or top of the head and commonly appear during high stress.
Migraines can affect multiple regions of the head, cause debilitating pain, and bring symptoms like nausea, blurred vision, or light sensitivity. They often occur cyclically and can be especially common in menstruating women.
Cluster headaches are sharp, severe, one-sided, and shorter in duration but often more intense than migraines. They tend to be more common in men.
Causes of Headaches
Headaches can develop for many reasons, including stress, allergens, caffeine withdrawal, dehydration from alcohol, food sensitivities (such as chocolate), head or neck trauma, or chronic muscle tension. Some types—like migraines and cluster headaches—still have unknown or unproven causes.
Understanding the pattern and root cause is a key part of determining the most effective treatment.
How Acupuncture Helps Treat Headaches
Headache treatment typically begins with carefully placed acupuncture needles in specific areas of the body to help the headache subside—often providing noticeable, immediate relief. As we observe how your body responds, we identify which Qi pathways need the most support.
With this information, we create a treatment plan aimed at strengthening those pathways, reducing inflammation, calming muscle tension, and improving circulation. Over time, this approach can significantly reduce how often headaches occur and how severe they become.
A Clear, Supportive Path to Relief
We know how disruptive headaches and migraines can be, especially when they start affecting sleep, mood, or daily functioning. Our goal is to understand your unique patterns and give you a clear, effective plan that helps you regain control and feel more like yourself again. You deserve relief that lasts—not just a temporary break from the pain.
