Heal Wrist & Hand Pain with FAST™

When your wrists, hands, or fingers hurt, even the simplest movements become frustrating – typing, opening a jar, holding your phone, getting dressed, or gripping the steering wheel. These small joints play a massive role in daily life, and when pain becomes persistent, it affects your work, your hobbies, and your sense of independence.

At New Dawn Acupuncture, I use a modern, integrative approach based on the FAST™ method to calm inflammation, release irritated soft tissue, and restore healthy movement. When we treat what’s really causing the pain – not just the symptoms – your hands can finally heal.

Why Wrist, Hand & Finger Pain Is So Common

The wrists and hands are densely packed with small muscles, bones, ligaments, and tendons. Because the structures are delicate and highly active, they’re vulnerable to a wide range of injuries and repetitive-use problems.

Trauma – such as a fall, sports injury, or sudden impact – can cause fractures, overstretched ligaments, torn tendons, or acute inflammation. Even after a sprain or strain has “healed,” lingering scar tissue can create stiffness, pain, or limited range of motion if it’s not addressed properly.

Then there’s the everyday strain we rarely think about. We grip, text, type, scroll, and hold devices for hours at a time – often in awkward or unsupported positions. When overuse accumulates, the tissue becomes irritated, but because we need our hands constantly, they rarely get enough rest to repair themselves. This is where chronic pain begins.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Inflammation and swelling are hallmarks of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. When the synovial linings around the tendons thicken from repetitive strain, they create pressure inside the wrist’s narrow “tunnel,” compressing the median nerve.

Common symptoms include:

  • Pins and needles
  • Numbness
  • Electric shock sensations
  • Pain that worsens with certain hand movements

Typing posture, prolonged device use, and repetitive gripping often play major roles.

De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis (“Gamer’s Thumb”)

This condition develops when the synovial sheaths surrounding the thumb tendons become inflamed from overuse. Repetitive thumb motions – texting, gaming, scrolling, lifting – gradually irritate the tissues and create sharp pain along the thumb and wrist.

Wrist Tenosynovitis

Similar to De Quervain’s, but involving the wrist tendons, this condition results from sudden or repetitive irritation of the synovial sheaths. Symptoms often come on quickly and can make gripping or lifting painful.

Distal Ulnar Neuritis (Guyon’s Canal Syndrome)

This occurs when tissues in the canal on the pinky-side of the wrist compress the ulnar nerve and artery. Activities like long-distance cycling (leaning on handlebars), repetitive pressure, or vibration can provoke the irritation.

Symptoms often include:

  • Pain
  • Numbness
  • Weakness
  • Tingling in the 4th and 5th fingers

These symptoms can also originate from nerve entrapments higher up – including C8 nerve compression in the spine, thoracic outlet syndrome, or cubital tunnel syndrome. A detailed assessment helps determine the true source.

How We Treat Wrist, Hand & Finger Pain

For all of these conditions, acupuncture is an excellent therapy to calm inflammation, release tight muscles, and support healing in the affected tissues. Because we can target specific points and pathways, acupuncture restores healthier movement and reduces pain without forcing the tissues.

To speed recovery, I combine acupuncture with the FAST™ method.

FAST™ is designed to treat soft-tissue dysfunction at the structural level – the level most traditional approaches overlook. This is why the results are often more complete and longer-lasting.

A Careful, Compassionate Path Back to Comfort

Your healing begins with listening – understanding how this pain affects your work, your daily activities, and your quality of life. From there, we create a clear, personalized treatment plan that respects your time, supports your goals, and helps you get back to full function with confidence.

If wrist, hand, or finger pain is limiting your daily life, you don’t have to wait for it to worsen.

What is FAST™?

FAST™ is a breakthrough technique that combines:

Cross-fiber manual therapy to break down scar tissue.

Targeted acupuncture to release tension and improve blood flow.

Photobiomodulation (laser therapy) to accelerate repair at the cellular level.

This integrative approach doesn’t just cover up symptoms. It works at the structural level to heal the true source of pain that other approaches ignore - so you can get back to doing what you love without the constant worry of re-injury or flare-ups.

How FAST™ Works

Most chronic soft tissue pain is caused by micro-tears, adhesions, and scar tissue that restrict movement, limit oxygen flow, and trigger inflammation. Standard treatments ignore this source of chronic pain, even considering these types of damage “healed” despite the continued pain.

FAST™ targets this dysfunction directly by:

Reactivating the body’s natural healing response in damaged tissues.

Stimulating collagen production and blood flow using targeted laser therapy.

Releasing tight muscles and restoring proper alignment through acupuncture and manual techniques.
